Inspired by Rose’s Journey, an example of the impact one life can have on the lives of many, the Journeys program is intended to empower individuals.

Journeys

Moud Kasirivu

Narrow Road first met Moud at Uganda’s Daughters of Charity Home in 2006.  Moud demonstrated exceptional ability as an artist, and his intent was to use art as both his occupation and a means to help others.

In 2007 Narrow Road began assisting Moud with funding for an art studio and also miscellaneous travel and material costs to support his work.  Moud has since overseen a successful art studio in one of Kampala’s tourist markets.  His work is present within some of Kampala’s nicest hotels, and he has been able to financially sustain himself through this talent.

Moud is now able to show his art throughout the world and has travelled to South Africa, Germany, and the United States.  He is simultaneously working on a House of Hope project in Uganda to assist young children facing many of the same challenges he himself lived with during his childhood.

Susan Eunyu

Narrow Road met Susan in the Hope Ward of International Hospital Kampala in 2009.  Susan was in the ward with an ill younger sister who has since passed away.  We learned that Susan had been responsible for her four younger siblings since the death of her parents at the hands of rebels.  Her youngest sister required frequent all-day journeys to Uganda’s capital of Kampala because of her medical condition.  All of the siblings depended upon Susan for food and care.  These responsibilities all fell on the shoulders of, at that time, a 19 year old.

Susan expressed an interest in being able to pursue education with the hopes of one day becoming a nurse.  However, the expense of education was more than she could afford.  Beginning in 2009, Narrow Road has been funding Susan’s education as well as offering other various forms of assistance.  Our intention is to continue to support this young life as she pursues her dream of becoming a nurse.

How Journeys Works: The intention of the Journeys program is to allow Narrow Road to make tangible impacts in the lives of individuals.  Our interactions with both Moud and Susan were the result of chance encounters, time learning their stories, and pursuit of a long term relationship.  The result is increased opportunity for an individual, and a residual benefit to others.  In the cases above, Moud has empowered himself to assist others through House of Hope.  Susan is in a position to better assist her siblings.  We will continue to pursue these types of opportunities with individuals as they present themselves.

Narrow Road has come to know Jessica Asiimwe through the Sabina Primary School in Sanje, Uganda.  During multiple visits to the school we observed, and were told by staff, about Jessica’s exceptional intellect.  In July of 2009, while visiting Sabina, we were struck by the maturity of Jessica’s views on Ugandan political and economic circumstances.

While she has excelled in every portion of Primary School at Sabina, Jessica’s family is unable to fund the costs associated with her Secondary School.  In the interest of providing an environment that can allow Jessica to reach her potential, Narrow Road will be covering expenses associated Jessica’s Secondary School.
